In 2015, King County Behavioral Health and Recovery Division partnered with Seattle Public Schools Interagency Academy to open Washington’s only public recovery high school. Ten years later, the program continues to change the lives of students and families. The Interagency Recovery Campus (IRC) provides a safe and sober environment where young people in recovery from SUD and other conditions pursue their academic and career goals. Daily recovery support groups foster a peer community that extends beyond the school day, with opportunities for mentorship, youth leadership development, and engagement in fun activities.

After enrolling in the program, 53% of IRC students have more than one year of recovery. In the words of a graduate: “… if it weren’t for the school, I’d probably be dead. I was immersed in a community that was doing the work to stay sober… and I was taught how to do that.”
