New Jersey is recognized as one of the best children’s behavioral health systems in the country, in part because of its supports for access and coordination. Families can access all services by calling PerformCare, the state’s single-entry point for behavioral health. Each county has an independent, family-run Family Support Organization (FSO) with state funding and accountability to provide advocacy, peer support, and system navigation services. Local Care Management Organizations (CMOs) create care plans tailored to each child’s needs, bringing together child-and-family teams using the wraparound approach. FSOs and CMOs ensure different perspectives are heard and provide space for healthy debate in case planning.
