Akin is a statewide provider that serves young people and families across Washington. Akin’s Family Resource Centers (FRCs) in Washington State serve as vital third places where families can gather, build connections, and access community support in welcoming, no-cost environments.

By providing essential resources like food, supplies, and parenting programs while fostering multi-generational relationships through local partnerships, these seven centers located across the state create informal community hubs that combat isolation and strengthen social bonds. With 12,000+ touchpoints with families, Akin’s FRCs exemplify how third places can address both practical needs and the human need for belonging, building healthier communities through accessible spaces where neighbors become support networks.

Additionally, Akin coordinates the Washington Family Support Network made up of 124 FRCs across the state as of fall 2025. The Network helps reach hundreds of additional families with things like dual language parenting groups, counseling, and connection to housing, food, and utilities support as well as more intensive support for those impacted by domestic violence, substance use, and child welfare system involvement.
